Biography & Research:
Prof Ruoling Chen has medical background (MBChB) with training in medical statistics (MSc) and epidemiology (PhD), and has worked on public health for 30 years with 20 years’ research experience in epidemiology. He is an international expert on epidemiology and public health, leading the research area on “Association of ETS exposure with Dementia”. Prof Chen has worked previously at Universite Paris VII in France and Universities of Liverpool, Dundee and London (University College London, and King’s College London) in the UK. As a Professor in public health and medical statistics at UoW, he leads a research group of Population Health and a research cluster for Epidemiology and Global Health, focusing on dementia risk factors and care research. He has obtained competitive research grants of a total of > €1 million from national and international sources (e.g. The BUPA Foundation, Alzheimer’s Research UK, H2020 MSCA). He has published over 190 peer-reviewed scientific papers, with an H index of 35 (around 4000 citations, google scholar). Prof Chen is often invited to evaluate manuscripts and grant applications by prestigious journals such as NEJM and grant bodies such as UK MRC and NIHR. In 2018 Professor Chen set up and organised an International Conference of Global Health and Epidemiology in Wolverhampton, UK. He has set up and is a guest editor for a special issue – “Global Health and Epidemiology” for International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health UK (https://bit.ly/2HnvLkW), attracting many delegates from different countries (e.g. America, Europe, China).
