Biography & Research:
Giuseppe Verdile, Ph.D. is Associate Professor, teaching and research academic and group leader of the Alzheimer’s Disease Research Group within the School of Pharmacy and Biomedical Sciences and Curtin Health Innovation Research Institute at Curtin University. His research is over a spectrum of disciplines, which include Neuroscience, Biochemistry and Cell Biology. The research focus is the molecular basis of Alzheimer’s disease and how risk factors promote the progression of the disease. This has implications for understanding current drug targets, identifying new ones and implementing potential therapeutics
Particular research areas include: understanding structure, function and mechanistic action of the beta amyloid generating enzyme, gamma secretase and its components the presenilins; Understanding how risk factors such as Type 2 Diabetes and chronic stress impact on Alzheimer's disease pathogenesis.
