Biography & Research:
Massimo Filippi is currently Director of the “BrainMap” Scientific Interdepartmental Program and Director of the Neuroimaging Research Unit (NRU), Institute of Experimental Neurology, San Raffaele Scientific Institute; and Full Professor of Neurology at Vita-Salute San Raffaele University, Milan, Italy. His research activity has always been focused on the definition of the mechanisms leading to accumulation of physical disability and cognitive impairment in various neurological conditions. As Director of the NRU, he coordinated the MRI acquisition and analysis of several international MRI-monitored trials of MS. He is member of various Scientific Societies and Boards and, in some of them, he covered or is covering institutional roles. He is author of over 880 full papers; he edited several international volumes; he is member of the Editorial Boards of many international journals and reviewer for several others. He is Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Neurology. He is very often requested as speaker/chairman in national and international neurological congresses. He is also Visiting Professor at the University of Belgrade (2006) and Heinrich-Heine University Duesseldorf (2008). In 2001, he was awarded the “Rita Levi Montalcini” Prize for his contributions to the study of MS; and in 2015 Distinguished Dr Luis Barraquer Ferré Lecture at the LXVII Congress of the Spanish Society of Neurology (SEN).
