Biography & Research:
I am in final stages of MD-PhD training at West Virginia University School of Medicine. I successfully defended my PhD thesis in November 2016 and returned to medical curriculum to complete requirements for MD degree. Before matriculating in the program I did post-baccalaureate fellowship in NIMH, Laboratory of Neuropsychology, Section on Cognitive Neurophysiology and Imaging with Dr. David Leopold. I conducted my pre-doctoral research under guidance of Dr. Bernard Schreurs. We study animal models of Alzheimer’s disease, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and how the brain stores memories. We use basic classical conditioning paradigms coupled with advanced neuroscience techniques to unlock the biology of disease. In studying the effects of cholesterol in an animal model of Alzheimer’s disease we have shown that cholesterol has dramatic effects on the brain and behavior.
