Biography & Research:
Tamara Backhouse, PhD, is a Post-doctoral Researcher in the School of Health Sciences at the University of East Anglia, UK. She has extensive experience working in care homes with older people, including those living with dementia. Tamara's academic background is in sociology and psychology. Her research examines the way dementia-related behaviours are experienced and managed by caregivers. Tamara was awarded a ‘Rising Star in Dementia Research’ runner up award from the Alzheimer’s Society in 2017 and has recently been awarded an Alzheimer’s Society post-doctoral fellowship (due to start in 2018) to examine resistance to personal care in severe dementia. Tamara’s research interests are: dementia related behaviours, areas creating tension for caregivers, care homes, long-term care, acute hospital care, and risk.
