Biography & Research:
Dr Burrell was appointed a senior research officer at the University of Sydney in January 2017, after previous employment at the University of New South Wales (UNSW), located at Neuroscience Research Australia (NeuRA). He is a long-term member of a large research group headed by Prof John Hodges and Prof Olivier Piguet, which focuses on frontotemporal dementia, atypical or young-onset Alzheimer's disease, and other cognitive syndromes. The group has close collaborative relationships with Prof Matthew Kiernan and Prof Glenda Halliday (both at Brain and Mind Centre, University of Sydney).
Dr Burrell is an Associate Investigator on several large research programs and teams including ForeFront (an NHMRC program studying the overlaps between frontotemporal dementia and motor neuron disease) and the Australian Research Council Centre of Excellence in Cognition and its Disorders.
Dr Burrell's research focuses on the clinical, neuropsychological, neurophysiological, and neuroimaging characteristics of dementias, with a specific improving diagnostic and prognostic markers. He has more than 35 peer reviewed manuscripts in high-impact international journals, and reviews regularly for international journals and funding bodies.
