Biography & Research:
Michele Fiorini, Ph.D., is Temporary Assistant Professor in Biotechnology and methods in laboratory medicine at the Department of Neuroscience, Biomedicine and Movement, University of Verona, Verona, Italy. He was graduated in agro-industrial Biotechnology in 2000, and obtained his Ph.D. in Biotechnology in 2005. From 2001 he was several research fellowship holder for the Department of Neuroscience, Biomedicine and Movement, University of Verona in the field of human and animal neurodegenerative diseases.
He is lecturer of the course of biomedical laboratory techniques at University of Verona.
He collaborates with several leading scientists in Europe and USA in the field of Neuroscience and Neuropathology
Research activity:
- CSF and tissue Proteomics: biochemical characterization of pathogenic mechanisms and of associated biomarkers
- Identification and characterization of new biomarkers
Clinical activity:
- Molecular diagnosis of dementia and neurodegenerative and diseases: molecular markers screening in cerebrospinal fluid. (14-3-3, Aβ1-42, Aβ1-40, Tau protein, phpspho-Tau-181)
- Pathologic prion protein identification in cerebrospinal fluid and olfactory mucosa by RtQuic assay;
- Definite prion diagnosis: pathologic prion protein identification in autoptic brain tissue.
