Biography & Research:
Prof. Lucio Marinelli is a neurologist and associate professor of neurology at the University of Genova. His clinical experience ranges from movement disorders, mostly Parkinson's disease and dystonia, to patients with spasticity following brain and spinal cord lesions. Prof. Marinelli expertise with neurophysiological techniques covers both central and peripheral nervous system; he also has a consolidated experience with behavioral techniques involving motor control of upper limbs and motor learning.
His research interests mainly concern the study of the pathophysiological mechanisms of alterations in muscle tone in stroke survivors, patients with movement disorders, multiple sclerosis and cognitive impairment, using neurophysiological methods that are therefore able to explore the nervous system from a functional point of view. This mainly diagnostic area is accompanied by the interest in identifying and perfecting therapeutic approaches in the treatment of changes in muscle tone and pain in the same type of patients.
