Biography & Research:
An acclaimed scientist and inventor with a broad range of experience in basic and applied sciences, contributed to diagnostics and therapeutics research, medical device technology discovery to market, scientific adviser in a broad spectrum of scientific disciplines, and member of a venture capital organization.
Dr. Tapan K. Khan made a significant contribution to Alzheimer’s disease detection. Some of the technologies his lab at Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute developed have now been marketed by Synaps Dx. The CLIA-certified test is currently being used routinely in clinics. He provides scientific and technical leadership and collaborates with various organizations. Dr. Tapan K. Khan has diverse experience in research and development work in Neuroscience and Chemistry. Tapan Khan has been the Director of Research and Development at Synaps Dx since September 2021. Before this role, he worked as a Scientific Consultant at the same company from October 2018 to September 2021.
Before joining Synaps Dx and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, Tapan worked at the West Virginia University Research Corporation. Tapan Khan served as a Lead Research Scientist from October 2016 to October 2018. In this role, he led a research group on a neurodegenerative medicine project, advised the neurodegenerative investigational new drug program, and reviewed grant submissions.
Tapan K. also has experience working at the WVU Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute, where he held the positions of Associate Professor from July 2008 to October 2016 and Assistant Professor from July 2004 to June 2008. As an Associate Professor, he managed the RNI Peripheral Diagnosis of Alzheimer's Disease program and was a member of the Joint Management Committee of an alliance between Alere Diagnostics (Parent organization: Abbott Laboratories) and the R&D facilities of Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute at Rockville, MD (2009-2014). When he was Assistant Professor/Associate Professor, his lab developed the technology for peripheral diagnostics for Alzheimer’s disease that was licensed by Synaps Dx.
Tapan K. Khan began their education in Chemistry at the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, India. Following this, he pursued a Postdoctoral Fellowship in training at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine, specializing in Cell/Cellular and Molecular Biology from 2000 to 2003. Dr. Khan further expanded his knowledge by becoming a Research Associate in Medicinal Chemistry at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill from 2003 to 2004.
